Musik Australiens
Die typische australische Volksmusik setzt sich zum einen aus Aboriginal Musik, zum anderen aus irischer und schottischer Volksmusik zusammen. Aber auch viele bekannte Rockmusiker kommen aus Australien.
Aboriginal Musik
Die australische Volksmusik der Ureinwohner, der Aborigines, erfreut sich heutzutage sehr großer Bekanntheit. Auch wenn die ursprüngliche Musik sehr verändert worden ist, spilen immer noch die Geschichten der Aborigines die Hauptrolle, unterstützt von den typischen australischen Musikinstrumenten Didgeridoo, Clapsticks und Bullroarer. Das Didgeridoo hat mittlerweile auch die gesamte Musikwelt erobert. überall wird es von Bands jeder Art eingesetzt. Doch leider ging dadurch der Gedanke diese Instruments verloren. Jedes bemalte Didgeridoo erzählt seine eigene Geschichte und wurde nur speziell für einen Zweck geschaffen. Um Geister auszutreiben, für Initiationen oder für andere rituelle Taten. Mittlerweile kann sich jeder ein Didgeridoo kaufen, ohne jedoch über das Instrument Bescheid zu wissen. Das ist schon etwas traurig. Aber dennoch gibt es genug Abos, die weltbekannt sind und für ihr Volk spielen.
Folk
Australischer Folk ging bedingt durch die englischen Einwander auf englische, und speziell auf irische und schottische Musik zurück. Man hatte sich in Australien schon immer mehr den Iren und Schotten zugeordnet als den Engländern. Man kann hier dann zum Beispiel Lieder wie Pub with no Beer oder Botany Bay hören. Aber das bekannteste ist sicherlich Waltzing Matilda, das von einem jolly swagman erzählt, der von der Polizei gestellt wird und hierauf Selbstmord begeht. Ein paar Liedtexte findet man hier...
Rock
Australische Rockgruppen sind sehr erfolgreich. Die bekanntesten sind/waren INXS und Midnight Oil. Letztere setzen sich sehr für die Belange der Aborigines ein, ihr Sänger Peter Garrett wurde sogar beinahe Politiker, doch entschied sich ganz kurzfristig anders und wurde wieder Sänger. Später jedoch betrat er nach Erfolgen seiner Band für die Grünen die politische Bühne. Außerdem gibt es z.B. auch noch Men at Work, die die Hymne Down Under geschaffen haben.
